He’s here, he’s there, he’s every-fucking-where, and he’s definitely real. Brett Goldstein, aka Ted Lasso fan favorite Roy Kent, joined Jimmy Kimmel ahead of the Emmys this Sunday to chat about his nomination, going from the writer’s room to starring, and the weird internet rumor that he’s a computer-generated character.

“When I found out that I was CGI, it’s quite disconcerting,” he told Kimmel. “Because I’ve seen a lot of sci-fi films, and I started to be like, ‘Maybe I am?’ Cause they’d implant memories to make me think I wasn’t, right?”

Kimmel had a plan to help Goldstein out with his existential crisis, though, challenging him to drink from a frosty glass of very real chocolate milk — which, as everybody knows, is impossible for CGI characters to do. (Plain milk, of course, is another story.)

Goldstein also discussed his gift for swearing — a pastime that playing Roy allows him to indulge in at work.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to get paid for it,” he joked. “It’s something that I’ve got good at, you know what I mean? You’ve gotta use your talents.”
