Something was amiss when the Nebraska Cornhuskers college football team sent their punting squad out to the field for the first time on Saturday: there were only 10 players, and no punter. 

It was a gesture to honor former teammate Sam Foltz, who was killed in an automobile accident on July 23. The team stepped out onto the field and, with no one to kick the ball, let the clock wind down to a delay of game penalty.

Then, in an equally classy move, the opposing Fresno State Bulldogs declined the penalty.

When the teams resumed play a refreshed Huskers punting squad took to the field, with freshman Caleb Lightbourn delivering a 29-yarder for his first career punt. Read more…
