Watch Lorde pay tribute to David Bowie (without an orange wig)
When Lorde paid tribute to David Bowie at the 2016 BRIT Awards, she wasn’t wearing an orange wig. She didn’t perform on a dancing keyboard.
Rather, in a demure white-and-black outfit, and Bowie’s backing band behind her, she took the stage for a performance of one of the Thin White Duke’s greatest hits, “Life on Mars?” — one that showcased her vocal talent and remained reverent.

That’s to say it looked nothing whatsoever like Lady Gaga’s tribute to Bowie at the 2016 Grammys, where she rushed through his hits in a Halloween costume-like getup, never letting the audience really experience how powerful his songs were. Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones, didn’t have kind words to say. And while Lorde may not have been many Bowie fans’ first pick for the tribute, it was undoubtedly an improvement. Read more…
