Two weeks before the launch of the odd-even formula to restrict the number of private vehicles in Delhi, rival ride-sharing companies Uber and Ola Cabs have launched their carpooling services in the Indian capital. With the Delhi government’s measure expected to reduce the number of private cars in the city by half, taxi companies are stepping up to fill the gap.

Both the carpooling services are being rolled out in the Indian capital after piloting in Bengaluru, and have several key differences. Uber’s ride-sharing plan UberPOOL matches riders heading in the same direction. According to the company, it is also up to 30% cheaper than UberGO, the cheapest version of Uber in Delhi. The service will operate on UberGO cabs, but is also being extended to private car owners.
